FireOnTheMountain wrote:Well all registered up for the full. If anyone wants to get in some runs I would be more than happy to. Got the Golden Gate Dirty 30 to train for also.

I frequent the Boulder area often and will soon be venturing out to Golden once the West Corridor rail opens in April (don't like to drive to my running spots, use a bus/bike combo).

EDIT: What we should do is get a little gathering together. Since we got the extra daylight this is the time to start hittin the trails hard....
I'm in Abe, especially once you get down to Golden. Golden Gate park has some good hills :)

Hey all - I've emailed the Leadville Organizing team leader regarding a relay - I proposed the idea pitched by several of you of the 4 team relay; proposed we could also do this with 7 runners as long as the Mosquito Pass section from Aid Station B and back is completed by one strong runner (or non-griping walker).

My computer died on my several weeks ago, and I lost the spreadsheet I was using to track interested folks... going back through this thread, I see the following:

Kushrocks
Metalmountain
Ameristrat
Zdero1 - maybe if they can do something with your entry since you already paid for the half
SummitKathy.

Are there any others interested at all? Showing interest now does not mean you are bound, but we'd love a commitment soon. I will be tracking this the next couple of weeks and would like to get the race an official answer of participants by May 1st.

Just so we are all clear -

Runner 1 - Start to Aid Station A (3.8 mile leg)
Runner 2 - Aid Station A, around Ball Mountain, back to Aid Station A (3.3 mile leg; 7.1 miles in)
Runner 3 - Aid Station A to Aid Station B (2.7 mile leg; 9.8 miles in)
Runner 4 - Aid Station B to Aid Station C (3.3 mile leg; 13.1 miles in)
Runner 4 - Aid Station C to Aid Station B (3.3 mile leg; 16.4 miles in)
Runner 3 (5) - Aid Station B to Aid Station A (2.7 mile leg; 19.1 miles in)
Runner 2 (6) - Aid Station A, around Ball Mountain, back to Aid Station A (3.3 mile leg; 22.4 miles in)
Runner 1 (7) - Aid Station A to Finish (3.8 mile leg; 26.2 miles total).

Thanks Bill for organizing this! I am very disappointed to not be able to run the full marathon as planned. But I just dont think it'll be possible now that I'm expecting a baby due at the beginning of August. :) I still want to participate though and know that these shorter distances are definitely possible. Can't wait!

Okay - this is the official call to runners... This is what's been approved by the race organizers, and the things we still have to finalize. This is what I posted on Rob's memorial page on Facebook.

Hey all potential/possible wannabe runners in the upcoming Leadville Marathon to honor Rob on June 29th of this year. I've talked to the race organizers and they have verbally approved of our plan - we can run either a team of 4 or 7 runners, min. If we only have 4 runners, each runner will run 2 legs; a strong runner (or strong walker, because at 13,000' even runners tend to walk,) will run the middle two back-to-back. If we have 7 runners, each runner can run 1 leg, and a strong runner/walker would have to do the middle two - logistically we can't get a runner to the top of Mosquito pass, so the 4th and 5th legs of the race are up to the top, then back down to the aid station - one person.

Here is the plan:

They are asking that each runner pay for the half-marathon fee, but we will be given the full marathon shirt, medal, and all the typical race bling and take-aways that all the runners get. We are still organizing how the "team" will place in the race - if we all are running for Rob, and not for time - then we all finish as DNFs, instead of having an actual team time. Since there is no organization for a team in this race, as a team we'd be listed in the individual finishers columns, and that's not fair to a runner who runs all 26.2 to be bumped lower because a team of 4/7 with many more fresh legs finished faster.

So... interested? Please send me a PM so I can make sure I get your info - I would like to get a final count to the organizers by May 1st.

Completely missed this last month but I can still run like I said I would if you need me Bill. Also, would be okay to take the middle leg - just might not be the fastest! :)
You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know. - Rene Daumal

Thanks for catching this topic Teddy - I need to go back through emails and PMs and I will assemble the final verbal totals of people who want to participate next week and post them.

Remember, sign up for the half - do this by any deadline they require. From there we will coordinate travel and all the necessaries!
