Phil Furiosi (Mrwaffles989) Has died
Phil Furiosi died a couple of days ago at his home near Scranton Pennsylvania. He was 27 years old. Phil opened my eyes to world of the Big Mountains. When I was seriously delayed descending Aconcagua while helping a climber in distress Phil came back up to find me and assisted us both.
He had a passion for Chamonoix, France and skied many Fourteeners even though he lived out East. We were planning on Chimborazo,Ecuador in the near future and he had been invited on a trip to Gasherbrum II.
The service is on Wednesday. I am going to attend.

There is a Gofund me campaign to help his folks out with funeral expenses.

That is really freaking sad, and shocking. Twenty-seven years old...just a kid! We tend to get negative and cynical and snarky on the forum (and I can be guilty of that myself) but Mr Waffles had one of the best frigging attitudes out there.
Very sorry for the loss of your friend, cbrobin. He was truly a bright light in an often very dark world.

Wow. That sucks.
My sympathies go out to all who feel his loss.
The guy got after things and made this forum much more fun with his presence.
RIP.

My condolences to the family. Phil took some heat on this forum many years ago for some cocky youthful mistakes, but he acknowledged this and continued to develop many mountain skills. Most of us can relate to his desire for exciting adventures.

Wow, sad indeed. He clearly chased his dreams hard. Condolences to friends and family.

Super bummer.
I was always stoked on his "to the point" attitude and willingness to not hide facts and admit mistakes, etc. We actually talked about doing some winter stuff together. What a shame, RIP dude.

Damn. His stoke was obvious, and sometimes carried him beyond where he perhaps should have been, but he'd simply focus it on getting out then write a pretty entertaining tale about it. A Keystoner who went to U. of Wyoming, he upped his game pretty quick! IHOP to you, Mr. W.

Sucks, I really liked the guy's online persona, though never met him in person. Shame. No real details either.

Mrwaffles will be missed, even if I never did get to meet him.
He was funny and intrepid and I enjoyed all the harmless fun we had occasionally at his expense.
Rest in Peace, Mano.

Shocking. I'm so sad to hear this. A loss to our on-line community. As others have pointed out, I enjoyed his enthusiasm and humor. Must be a horrible loss to those that knew him.
