All Hallows Eve: The Third Annual 14ers Winter Welcomer!

Postby Dancesatmoonrise » Sat Sep 10, 2011 10:55 pm

Let's welcome the coming of winter once again with the Third Annual 14ers Winter Welcomer climb on Quandary!

Last year we had a huge turnout - over 50 people made it to the summit.

Once again I would like to thank Steve Gladbach for the inspiration of this tradition, when he took five of us up Quandary on Halloween weekend in 2009. Steve has not only been a pioneering influence in Colorado mountaineering, but has selflessly devoted much of his time to seeing others achieve their mountaineering dreams as well. Steve, a HUGE THANKS FROM ALL OF US!!

Please post if interested, and which day would work best. In the event of adverse weather or avy conditions, will make the call the week of, and consider an alternate date if needed.

Interested with a Saturday preference and Sunday as a second choice.

Very interested as well, a Saturday would be best followed by a Sunday.

I would be interested as well for Saturday and Sunday as a 2nd choice. I went last year and made it to about 13,400 and would really like to summit my 1st winter 14er, so looking forward to it.

Same Here. If the weather is good, Alise would like to come also.

Marie123 and I are in for this as well. We would prefer a Saturday as well with Sunday as a far off second choice.

Very slight chance I'll be out of the country...barring that I'm definitely in, Saturday would be best but I could make Friday/Sunday work as well.

Looking at last year's thread, it seems that beginners are welcome to this one. If thats the case I'm definitely in and would prefer Saturday! Although Sunday could work as well.

Sweet! There I am in the green jacket in the middle of the last photo. I might do this again this year and see if I can improve my time from last year. I might even bring microspikes and an ax this time!

Is it possible to get some good glissades in on the way down?

If I'm free on the chosen weekend, I may join in on the fun as well.

I am a newbie to the site, but would love to get together and take part in this and meet some of you all! \:D/
Saturday is the preferred day, but I would be flexible.

And as an aside, as many have said: Thanks Bill for such an amazing resource!

Cheers

We’ll be just back after a week at sea level, so Quandary will be a good way to get back into walking uphill! Since we’ll be missing the Fall Gathering in the San Juans this will be a good chance to see some folks.
