Steve,

Is the Uncompahgre part still on or are you not coming at all?

Right now I am planning to attend this. I would like spend the first day in the Ice Park and then attempt Uncompaghre as a dayhike on Sunday.

Things could change if the forecast is perfect for something more ambitious.

I'm confident the trip is still "On", just not for me.

It seemed like anothe step-up in difficulty from our last three trips (Uncompahgre from Nellie Creek, harvard/ Columbia from horn Creek, holy Cross via Halfmoon pass.)

I'm sorry, but (in spite of suggesting the trip) I've decided not to participate in the winter Wetterhorn gathering. A few members voiced th eopinion that they felt it a foolhardy endeavor and, as a result, I've decided to cancel for myself. Personally, I can't be involved in a project where the criticism begins months in advance. Mountaineering is risky and, because of my personality, I would be inclined to shoulder the blame for an entire group should there be an incident.

A few years ago an author published a book where he included me under his chapter on how dangerous it is to follow a leader based on his reputation. The significant facts were wrong, but as one might expect, the book resurrected a very dark period of my life that took many years to reconcile.

Currently, I'm not capable of dealing with another personal attack. We all know mountaineering is dangerous but, if there is a problem, some Bozo will figure out where he wants to place the blame and publish his opinions (maybe not in print, but it will be on this site in about 15 minutes). Someone has to deal with the fallout of that crap.

I do feel Wetterhorn is a reasonable late winter goal for those with moderate snow travel and snow evaluation experience. I don't think it is "foolhardy."

Steve, I for one appreciate your openness and honesty. I am going to post your comment to a group of 23 that have signed up for this on CO Scramblers meetup site for consideration as well. Thank you.

I may be down for this, at least Uncompahgre. Mark me as a "maybe" :)

Steve: If this time slot is now vacant, maybe you could pursue other winter objectives?

Is anyone still considering this? Long range forecast seems promising...

Geeesh... Cricket, cricket. This thread is awkwardly quiet. Will be a good trip for those that go though!

Mickeys Grenade and I went. We packed in to the Nellie Creek TH on Saturday and had a wonderful afternoon. We made an attempt on Uncompaghre Sunday morning, but turned back early on due to a storm. We have been relaxing and enjoying Lake City since....even got a dozen or so laps in at the ice park.

Kudos to Kerry for trying to make it out, sorry we missed you man!
