I doubt it's that much colder in the A frame than it is at barr camp, though I guess it is warmer in the cabin. I've got an old 0 degree down bag that is probably still good down to 10 or 15 degree's if you want to use it. That with a bivy or a liner would probably get you through.
I would agree 4-6 people in the A frame. FYI When I was up there with my son on the 31st it was pretty junked up. We carried out some of the obvious trash but with only 1/2 of a 24 mile day under us we didn't feel like being maids..
Barr Camp seems like a much better choice to me.

Went up to Barr Camp yesterday (1/26). Trail is in great shape except for some ice right at the Cabin. There is fresh snow on the peak today.
