Little Bear/ South Little Bear hike Jan 19or20

Postby Sartorius78 » Mon Jan 14, 2013 11:32 pm

Anyone interested in tackling some bears and traverse this upcoming weekend? I do have one other person coming along, we are both flexible to either this Sat or Sun obviously if weather is good and Avy conditions low! Also was wondering if anyone has any more recent Beta on snow conditions up high which would be helpful! Thanks!

With respect to conditions I can't say for sure but from looking at the nearest SNOTEL site (http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/nwcc/site?sitenum=1005&state=co)it looks like they only got 6in of snow from a storm right after I did it (12/29) and then another 3in from the most recent storm. The SNOTEL had a snow depth of 22" when I did it but there was only 6-8in of snow on the ground in the trees on the SW ridge route. It has really good southern exposure so the sun really hits it.

You might even be able to call the owner of the Lodge Motel in Ft Garland and ask him. He's a pretty cool guy.

Good luck! It's an awesome climb. 8)
