Ptarmigan Fingers
Just wondering if anyone has any beta or stories for the Ptarmigan Fingers of Flattop Mountain? I'm heading out there for a mountaineerin seminar and guided trip and the guide said this is one of their most popular climbs for these seminars. Pictures would be awesome too! Thanks!!

Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."

Re: Ptarmigan Fingers
Are you going as part of the CMC's Basic Mountaineering Course? I took that course a couple of years ago, and we did a very similar trip. We ascended the couloir directly southwest of Notchtop, then glissaded down Ptarmigan Glacier. It was one of the longest glissades I have had to date. It was great!
I will try and dig up some photos.

Re: Ptarmigan Fingers
Actually yeah, I'm doing it with the custom guiding options they have at CMC. Anything you can tell me about your experience with them would be awesome. I can't wait to get to some snow!!

Re: Ptarmigan Fingers
Does anyone know conditions this year? Any chance to get ice/snow around Sep 7th? Thanks!

Re: Ptarmigan Fingers
I do not have any first hand beta for you, but the Divide web cam still shows significant snow/ice for Tyndall.

I've done Ptarmigan Glacier in Sept and it was very firm snow/ice.
as for the Fingers, I do not remember, but I would hazard a guess the tops would be melted out.
I heard they got ~8" of snow the other night.

Re: Ptarmigan Fingers
No idea on that basin, but the top half of Powell's N Couly was in last weekend so I'd guess the upper portions of a finger or two might be decent.
F/ Zowie - could see full part of Powell (far left) on descent. Sharkstooth center left - some ice and snow.
