Colorado Couloir Conditions

Postby lordhelmut » Fri Mar 23, 2012 10:57 am

Does anyone have first hand beta on the following lines in the Sawatch (or know of any other lines that are 100% filled in, other than Cronin that is)? ?

Mt Hope - Hopeful Couloir

Mt. Aetna - Grand Couloir

Sayres - X Rated Couloir

Pics would be a bonus and thanks for the info.

I was up Elbert last Saturday and remember thinking on the drive to the TH that Hopeful looked rather sad. I'll see if it shows up on any of the pictures I took, but it might not be that great right now.

Wow, Aetna has less snow now than when I did that route in May 2008!

X-rated on Sayres looked pretty good last Sat.

I took a lot of photos of X-rated, as it looked like a great line. Best photo (see below):

Bergsteigen -

That looks promising.

I'm officially expanding this thread to ALL OF COLORADO.

If anyone has pics or beta for any Couloirs around Colorado, please post. In a desperate attempt to salvage this season, the help would be much appreciated.

Someone posted a photo in the Facebook group of Boudoir Couloir on Horseshoe Mountain a week or two ago, and it did not look filled in.

Atlantis looks full according to photos from last weekend, but it's anorexic. I plan to take a long hard look at as many Tenmile couloirs as possible during a loop of Atlantic-Pacific-Crystal on Sunday. I'll post photos.

Lost Rat and Dead Dog both appeared nice and fluffy as of 3/11.

A few climbers from the recent Holy Cross trip said the Cross is good to go, but Angelica was bare at the top.
Many Miles to Go (Blog)

“There are two kinds of climbers: those who climb because their heart sings when they’re in the mountains, and all the rest.” - Alex Lowe

"There have been joys too great to describe in words, and there have been griefs upon which I cannot dare to dwell; and with those in mind I say, 'Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end.'" - Edward Whymper

Hello,

This thread will be my home for the next 5 months.

Second the request for beta on Hopeful.

X-Rated looks really nice. Thanks for the shot! #addedtolist

I haven't been to RMNP yet this year, but there's plenty of snow there and from my morning commute it looks like spring already. I highly recommend Dalkes Couloir (Ogalalla) if it's in - http://www.summitpost.org/dalkes-couloir/775965

Is there any beta for anything in the Lake Isabelle cirque?
I'll be damned if I feel like I will ever know anything, but if we don't keep moving on that last hill, we'll never know what's on the other side.

Sarcasm or not, it's not even funny to post something like this. Not at this time. Reported.

I am hoping the couloirs that do have decent snow are setting up so we can start to hit them before they melt out. I have a few I am interested in getting up this year, such as Snow Lion (Jasper), Desdemona and Phoebe (Neva), Silver (Buffalo - actually looked in when I was Target in S'thorne this weekend), Apache or Queens Way (Apache), Atlantis (Atlantic), and probably a few others.

I was thinking of the Cross Couloir when the road re-opened, but I might have to push that one off another year - it will be melted by June 20th at this rate.

When I get home to my where my images are, I will see if I got any shots from Elbert that show Hopeful, if not I can probably take a shot tomorrow on my way to BV.
