Post by Mindy »

Is descending Bancroft to Loch Lomand Rd. suitable for a beginner mountaineer in current conditions? Has anyone been up to Loch Lomand recently.

Any information or pictures would be appreciated.

Thank you!

So far I've seen the SE ridge described as "mellow" and "very mellow", so that should be a good descent. It sounds like we'd be walking out some of the 2.2 miles of the road, though - http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=71" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for the info! I got so wrapped up in Flora, Eva, Parry TR's this morning that I never clicked on Bancroft ](*,). Anyway, would still be good to know if anyone has been up there recently. Just sent PM re: shuttle thoughts.

FYI, you might get ahold of glacierPaul. He lives up near there and will have the most current conditions for you.

Mindy,
I was with a group that got weathered off an attempt at the East ridge back in the early summer. We were expecting to come down that SE ridge as it is the typical descent route. I remember there being an easy trail from the lake to where we cut over to the East ridge, and it was clear that the trail continued to the saddle. I also seriously doubt that there's any reason to be concerned about the current conditions this point. HTH.

This is a pic coming up the south east side of Bancroft. It's all pretty easy. You will definately know if you get on the east ridge.
