7/9 canine-led snow climb toward Vermillion

Post by colluvium »

While my climbing partner David and I were enjoying a cup of tea on Golden Horn yesterday (7/9, from Poverty Gulch) we were entertained watching an obviously fit and experienced dog leading two climbers up the steep snow from ice lakes basin to the Vermillion-Fuller saddle.
Send PM if that was you and I'll be happy to email full-resolution images.
A beautiful morning in the San Juans it was before the weather moved in!

Maybe I’m getting old… but where is the pup? Is it the little black and white speck along the boot path, to the right of the rocks?

In the path, to the right of the of the rocks, top center.
Had to downsample an image taken at 20x from 0.5 mile away.
