Pacific Peak - North Couloir

Post by Big Schwimm »

Anyone have recent beta on conditions in the couloir? Is there still continuous snow/ice?

Hoping to squeeze in 1 more solid climb if possible.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks!

Bumping this post because I was wondering the same thing. Guess it's too late at this point, but just in case...

Democrats North couloir is still certainly in if your searching for snow. Hopefully you find something good. I called it a season just over a week ago.

I was up there Sunday from the west. In short it's over.

We climbed the couloir yesterday. Lots of ice but the exit is totally melted out and very scary. As I told one friend afterwards, "Climbed the north couloir. 95% excellent snow and ice, 5% sheer terror on crappy rock."

I'd say it's done for the season, but to whet your appetite for next year, here's a photo from yesterday. Cheers.

OK, I'm convinced! Might check out the west ridge scramble route instead. Definitely on the list for next year though! Thanks!

P.S. just got your snow climbs book a few days ago - very nicely done!

Thanks Bill! Great beta!

BTW, I'm not convinced that ALL the snow/ice routes are out this year. I'd guess the permanent snowfields/glaciers of the northern Front Range (Taylor Glacier, Navajo Snowfield, etc.) are just starting to get fun!

AlexyD, hope you enjoy the book.

Hi Bill, thought you'd be tempted to ski that line after seeing the photo :)
