Bald/Boreas Conditions

Post by highplaces »

I’m thinking of going up Bald & Boreas from Boreas Pass this weekend. Conditions where I’ve been the last few weekends (Vasquez, Stanley, Bard, Parnassus, etc) have allowed me to stick with trail runners (no gaitors/winter boots). I’m wondering if that’ll be the same on Bald/Boreas and if anyone has current conditions. Thanks!

Saw Bald from a distance today but would expect similar conditions to what I've seen past 2 weeks up high - patchy snow up a few inches deep in places. FYI - be prepared for LOTS of false summits if doing Bald from Boreas. It was a fun hike but I wasn't expecting so many bumps along the ridge - most of the bumps have cairns as well.

Not sure if it is closed or not - I've been up there when it was "supposed" to be open but was still closed and locked. (this past June)

Yep, road is open. Route was 95% snow free. Carried microspikes, but never used them. Was in trail runners. Windy up high today.
