Mt. Powell (Gores) Conditions?
Anyone been up Mt. Powell (Gores) recently? Looking for info on the snowfield from Kneeknocker Pass to the summit and trying to decide what to carry (crampons, spikes, axe). The last report I could find here is from 7/25. Thanks!

From Kneeknocker Pass last Sunday, the route up Powell looked super dry. No snow fields even on the slight descent down the west side of the pass.

Thanks Brandon, very helpful! So, it sounds like no need to carry spikes/crampons/axe. Did you mean east side of the pass? That's the route I'm looking at.

I climbed Eagles Nest Monday via Piney Lake and Game Pass, walking over a tiny bit of overnight snow above 12500. There was some fresh snow on the north side of Powell. PM me if you'd like photos of Powell taken from Eagle Nest's summit.

Right, right...sorry about that. Yes, east side of the pass. I;d leave the snow gear at home.highplaces wrote:Thanks Brandon, very helpful! So, it sounds like no need to carry spikes/crampons/axe. Did you mean east side of the pass? That's the route I'm looking at.

Please forgive me for changing the subject, although it is Gore Range-related:
How come we have yet to see any 360-degree summit panoramas from the Gores? Not a single one of them has been done as of today. Mr. Bill lives fairly close to the range IIRC, so I am surprised that a few of them haven't already been pano'd. When I look at them on Google Earth the Gores looks like an incredible place to hike & climb, & I wonder if it could be one of CO's hidden gems that a lot of out-of-State (& even in-State?) people haven't learned to appreciate. Whether it is Eagles Nest A in the north to Red Pk. B in the south, methinks the Gores deserve a lil love on 13ers.com!

"Is there any need to offer proof that this odious perversion of the law [socialism] is a perpetual source of hatred and discord; that it tends to destroy society itself? If such proof is needed, look at the United States [in 1850]. There is no country in the world where the law is kept more within its proper domain: the protection of every person's liberty and property. As a consequence of this, there appears to be no country in the world where the social order rests on a firmer foundation."

I could tell you about the Gore Range but then I would have to shoot you. There are many trip reports if you search.

The gore range is terrible. Who wants to climb low 13ers with flat tops, no interesting things out there. The picture above is actually in the san juans, no gore peaks look like that.
