Woah! I was just down there! That would be really really bad to stumble upon alone.

Whoa is right! I"m in Cuchara right now and went fishing at Bear Lake yesterday morning. We did see a couple of sheriff vehicles but didn't think much of it. Man, you just never know!

I remember the Feds busting an operation like this in Pike NF a few years ago near Green Mountain in the Buffalo Creek area. Been in there (Cuchara area)once, lots of beautiful hanging valleys above the lakes.

Two yet unidentified Mexican nationals are in custody at the Huerfano County Jail facing initial charges of illegal marijuana cultivation for distribution.
So how much longer will it be before we get serious about illegal immigration?
Federal officials estimate the value of the illegal marijuana at “at least” $10,000,000. The newly budding plants were destroyed at the site Wednesday, with the exception of some samples that were seized as evidence and for testing.
Say WHAT?!? Why couldn't that marijuana be given or sold to the now-legal marijuana sellers throughout CO rather than being destroyed? The cartels would have been furious if legit businesses were making $ off the marijuana that they themselves took the time & $ to grow. BTW: the Sheriffs could have used marijuana $ to fund their own Departments by their selling it to the legit businesses throughout the State. Imagine that!
"Is there any need to offer proof that this odious perversion of the law [socialism] is a perpetual source of hatred and discord; that it tends to destroy society itself? If such proof is needed, look at the United States [in 1850]. There is no country in the world where the law is kept more within its proper domain: the protection of every person's liberty and property. As a consequence of this, there appears to be no country in the world where the social order rests on a firmer foundation."

You mean like we did with illegal narcotics in the 1970s? That one's worked out pretty well, huh? One's mind reels at the thought of a War on Illegal Immigration. We'll have the same number of illegal immigrants, but even more violence and human misery as the smugglers and mules get greedier and seedier and the profit margin in human trafficking will make ever-crazier schemes worthwhile.

But on topic... I actually saw a briefing from some Sheriff's deputies about illegal pot operations in Pike NF. They made an interesting comment, which was that oftentimes the people "operating" these grows are not necessarily doing so willingly - they are often coerced into doing so by the cartels with threats against family members still in their native country. The deputies said it was a difficult realization that every time they bust one of these operations, there was a very real possibility that someone's relatives were getting killed as a result.

You mean we can't just build a giant wall and everything will be okay? Good insight and summary of a issue that is much more complex than people are willing to accept.
