Sangre ID's from webcams?

Post by Tornadoman »

Can anybody identify the Sangre peaks in these webcams? I believe there are some 13ers in there. Both are taken from the east side of the range.

Thanks,
Andrew

These webcams are both pointing at pretty much the same peaks. The largest one (right of center on wunderground and on the right on KLZR) is Spread Eagle Peak (13,4). Behind it to the left (only visible in wunderground) is Rio Alto (13,7). Hermit Peak (13,3) is barely visible to the left, mostly hidden by the 12er in front of it. To the left of that is Eureka (13,5). Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the reply, very helpful! I noticed the ski area in the far left of the wunderground image and did a little additional research, it looks like it was the Conquistador ski area (long since closed). I can imagine it would be tough to run a ski area in the questionable snow of the Sangres.

Yep, a cool page is here:
http://www.coloradoskihistory.com/lost/ ... tador.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (layout is broken in Chrome).

They had constant issues with maintaining enough snow on the slopes to be able to ski. They had to use snowmaking on almost the entire resort. It's little surprise that they were only able to keep it open for a decade (with frequent early closures due to the snow being stripped away).
