Snowshoes or spikes for Chasm Lake?

Post by ProfessorPinecone »

I'm thinking about hiking up to Chasm Lake tomorrow, has anyone been up that way recently? Is the snow deep enough for snow shoes, or will I be able to get by with microspikes?

I was there today, spikes are definite yes; snow (slow)-shoes are definite no.

I was also up there today and snow shoes are definitely not needed, I didn't even use micro-spikes although my boots are relatively new and have good traction still. Be wary of some of the "short cuts" that diverge off the main trail as there are quite a few and some of them lead to wallowing in softer snow. Enjoy!
