There is a route description in Garret/Martin guide book.
The Dalai Lama when asked what surprised him most about humanity:
“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

I climbed Colony Baldy from Upper Macey Lake 4 or 5 years ago. All I remember is that you head up to the southernmost upper lake, hang a left, and start climbing up steep grassy slopes. You eventually reach the summit ridge and follow it the rest of the way. I don't remember it being bad at all (except for getting sleeted off the summit and down the north slopes). I will say the approach is long and tedious. Camping at Lower or Upper Macey Lake is the way to go. Other than that you should have no problem. Good luck!

this one kicked my ass pretty good. I started from our place on the valley floor (8450 ft) at 6:10
AM and went
thru some private land to reach the eastward ridge of Colony Baldy where it intersects the
rainbow trail. This is an easy ridge to spot as the Rainbow Trail does a sharp u turn when
it reaches this ridge, directly between the Macey Lakes TH and the North Colony TH. From
there it was straight up the ridge. Left the ridge/Rainbow intersection at 7:30 AM and summited
at 11:45 AM, 13, 705 ft. It's difficult to get lost on a single ridge going straight to the top, but
take care on the descent as once you enter the trees on the way down it is very easy to veer off
to the steep northern slope heading down to North Colony Creek.
