Synopsis:
Adventure climber Leo Houlding and filmmaker Alastair Lee present Autana, a sumptuous production of truly epic proportions. Leo and fellow climbers Sean Leary and Jason Pickles head deep into the Amazon in an attempt to make the first ascent of the east face of the remote tepuy (table-top mountain) Cerro Autana. Disguised as tourists, the clandestine climbers embark upon a covert journey, via military checkpoints and secret ports, traveling down the Orinoco River to the remote village of Ceguera. There they make a traumatic psychotropic visit to the local Shaman to gain access to the sacred mountain. Sweltering humidity, porter chaos and an assortment of jungle nastiness are just a part of this spectacular journey of self-discovery and big wall hunting. Finally on the tepuy, our team of redoubtable characters ascends the jungle-infested rock face, amazed not only at the climbing, but at a luxury wall camp in the incredible Autana cave system (the highest elevated cave system in the world) just below the tepuy summit.
As if none of us have ever come back with a cool, quasi-epic story instead of being victim to tragic rockfall, a fatal stumble, a heart attack, an embolism, a lightning strike, a bear attack, collapsing cornice, some psycho with an axe, a falling tree, carbon monoxide, even falling asleep at the wheel getting to a mountain. If you can't accept the fact that sometimes "s**t happens", then you live with the illusion that your epic genius and profound wilderness intelligence has put you in total and complete control of yourself, your partners, and the mountain. How mystified you'll be when "s**t happens" to you! - FM
