Group Photo Sharing pages

Postby BillMiddlebrook » Wed May 02, 2012 1:19 pm

I've added pages so forum members can share batches of JPG photos using ZIP files. If you climb with a group and want to share photos after a climb, this may be much easier than email or other photo sharing methods...

14ers.com Group Photo Sharing

Notes:
  • ZIP files must contain only JPEG/JPG file or the file will not upload.
  • ZIP file must be no larger than 75mb. This may change in the future.
  • You can have 2 ZIP files on the system at one time. This may change in the future.
  • Files will be removed from 14ers.com after 4 days or when you delete them from the main page.
  • You must assemble your ZIP file of JPG photos on your computer so it can be uploaded. Windows may allow you to zip your files but it may FAIL when trying to extract a zip file from the Internet. So, I recommend downloading a ZIP utility like 7-Zip (Free) or WinZip from the Internet. They will provide reliable zipping and unzipping of files.
  • Since this process takes up a lot of 14ers.com server resources, please use it wisely and only for climb photos.
  • Uploading offensive, inappropriate, pornographic or materials copyrighted by someone else will result in the termination of your account on 14ers.com
More instructions are located on the Group Photo Sharing pages...

If you have any problems using the pages, feel free to post on this thread. If you need help creating a ZIP file on your computer, please search the web for instructions before posting here. Thanks!

Nice, Bill! The Spring Gathering this weekend might give an opportunity for a lot of people to try it out. =D>

Just thought I'd plug this feature again as we're heading into the Memorial Day weekend. Using it was really convenient to share photos amongst the group I was with last weekend. Thanks again for offering it to members to use, Bill. =D>

My pleasure!
I'll be updating the max ZIP file size to 150mb after the weekend. That should cut down on the need to split up your files if you have more than 100mb worth of photos to share

I tried loading a 143 Mb zip file and got the error that I exceeded the maximum file sized of 150Mb. Is that upgrade completed?

Also is there any way it can check your file size before going through the process of uploading?

The max is set to 150mb, so it's likely a file size difference when it got to Linux. There's no good way for the page to determine the size of your file until it's completely uploaded, so I'd recommend just pulling a photo out of it (rezipping to a slightly smaller size) and it should make it through.

Sorry about that.
