Home Page maps/panos/pics/cams

Tired of those 360-degree panos yet? :)

Click the ImageDisplay Settings link on the home page (top right when logged in) and you can change the home page pano area to display Google Maps instead, including a MyTopo option. By default, the map loads 14ers and 13ers. Over the next few days I'll be cleaning up the peak links inside the map and adding weather links, etc.

Have fun!

I just finished adding 14er weather links to the new home page Google Map. I'll try to get the 13ers done today.

This is an interesting new feature to the site, Bill. I look forward to being able to turn off the balloons though! Looking at a topo is fun!!

Turn off the balloons or the individual, colored peak markers?

I'll be adding options to turn markers on/off and also select additional layers, similar to the main 14ers map page

For map options, you should now see "Display" above the map now...

Nice! I like it.

one thought (if you want to add more) that immediately came to mind, CAIC. They used to have zone maps showing the avy danger levels, I don't see them anymore.

I suppose the layer options are huge.

Great idea, but I looked into the CAIC site and they don't use a KML layer that I can see. Their map runs a server-side program to generate the map each time. I suppose they probably don't want KML files floating around because the content changes so often. I will email them to see if there's another way we can get real-time data.

Thanks!

Thanks, looks great.

If you need something else to add, I would appreciate a checkbox to hide unranked peaks.
So pleas'd at first the towering Alps we try,
Mount o'er the vales, and seem to tread the sky,
Th' increasing prospects tire our wand'ring eyes,
Hills peep o'er hills, and Alps on Alps arise!

Also added a Image to the right of the map options so the map can quickly be viewed in full-screen.

Since not everyone has a high-resolution screen, I'll have to figure out a way to scroll the map options area on the home page. Until then, I'll add more options to the full 14er map page, which is also what's displayed when you click the Image on the home page map.

Cool.

How about an option for a mix?
