Dogs on Uncompahgre

Post by phughes03 »

Is it ok to bring dogs on Uncompahgre Peak? If so do they have to stay on leash?

Your dog should be fine on uncompahgre. Wilderness regulations specify using a leash (although many people don't and it's not super regulated), so basically it's your judgement

In this particular wilderness area, dogs "must be under control(leash or voice)". The rules vary from one wilderness area to another.

I took my lab up Uncompahgre last September. In my opinion, it is very doable for pretty much any dog.

gonzalj summarized the leash rules. Make sure you bring a leash at a bare minimum.
