Rob Jansen Photo Memorial Thread
I'd like to ask my fellow community members for help on this one. For the next few weeks (perhaps leading up and through the Fall Gathering weekend or longer, if you want), will you consider carrying a simple printed or hand-written sign with the name of the peak that you're summiting (14ers, 13ers, 12ers, it doesn't matter) dedicated to the memory of Rob Jansen? Rob had five peaks left on his list of 58, so if anyone heading for the Chicago Basin 4 or Sneffels those would be especially appreciated. I already know some of his family and friends outside of 14ers.com have been visiting here to read the other memorial thread and feel that showing community support will help them in the healing process. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant -- just something like "Longs Peak, 14,255 ft. In memory of Rob Jansen."
Please post your photos in this thread if you are willing to help out. Also, please don't reply to this thread without a photo. I'd like to keep responses without photos to a minimum. Thank you, everyone.

Re: Rob Jansen Photo Memorial Thread
I'm sure I will have many posts in this thread. This one comes from a photo someone in our group took of Rob and Eric looking back to Capitol.

Rob looks like he was about like Usain Bolt, about 6'5" with long legs that could travel further with each step. Nice pic.
Re: Rob Jansen Photo Memorial Thread
That was my photo, which had the Facebook caption, "Rob is either aghast in fear...or yawning." He commented, "Capitol trembled so violently when it saw me approaching, I couldn't help but chuckle."gregory_fischer wrote:I'm sure I will have many posts in this thread. Here are a few more of Rob, in his element.

"There have been joys too great to describe in words, and there have been griefs upon which I cannot dare to dwell; and with those in mind I say, 'Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end.'" - Edward Whymper

Ha! Thanks for the background Jeff. I had that photo saved in my Capitol sub-folder, but I didn't know who took it.
Rob used this photo for his cover photo on Facebook's timeline for a few months. He's the only guy who could possibly taunt Little Bear after conquering it.

I think a lot of us would pitch for something like that. I know there are places online that will manufacture custom patches like that. I haven't dealt with it in some time but if I remember correctly you can just submit a graphic and they take it from there. I know some really pro graphic designers as well. Abe, can you make a few extras? I will give you money for it.FireOnTheMountain wrote:I plan on making an RJ patch and putting it on my pack.
If that interests anyone just PM me, I don't want to threadjack this.
