Jones Mountain & Niagara Peak Nov 17/18

Post by uwe »

Ok, posted this in the correct forum on the correct site. I am learning...

I am pumped to do this peak and hope this reload produces the magic weekend.

I was looking through Beth Dwyer's CMC Centennial Climbs spreadsheet. Jones Mountain, ranked 78th, has not been climbed, nor is a climbed planned. The ONLY ONE of the 100 that is unloved. Let's fix that.

Leave Saturday Time TBD
Arrive at TH
Car Camp/tent camp, expect early winter night conditions: cold.
Sunrise 6:49AM
Sunset 4:42PM
Start time 05:30AM

Climbing on the Western side of Jones, Niagra and American.
Won't see sun until we hit the saddle - 2.9 miles in, say before 8:00AM.

Route/Objectives:
[Source: Colorado's Thirteeners Gerry & Jennifer Roach]
Grouse-Burns Gulch TH 10,720'
28.A1 Burns Gulch Approach to Jones-Niagara saddle
5.8 mi
2,500'
Class 2

28.3 Jones Mountain - South Ridge
From Jones-Niagrara saddle:
RT:1.2 mi
EG: 640'
Class 2

[If team is motivated]
28.1 Niagara Peak - East Ridge
From Jones-Niagara saddle:
RT: .6 mi
EG:587'
Class 2+

If both peaks are climbed from the Jones-Niagra Saddle:
RT: 7.5 mi for both peaks
EG: 3727' for both peaks

Required Gear:
Helmet, ice axe and micro-spikes or crampons.
May need snowshoes and Avy gear depending on conditions.
(I have been tracking the weather since early October.)
