Re: Skiers Descend Vertical Clouds Rest in Yosemite
So are we allowed to start calling newspapers and reporting our ski descents to them without any pictures, videos or evidence of our accomplishments?
FYI to the Denver Post: I made the first ski descent of the Diamond on January 19th. The biggest crux was rappelling 1200' to Broadway. The best turns were the 3" of sideslipping on Broadway. The next biggest crux was rappelling 800' down the lower wall. Living in Denver for 8 years, I would always see Longs and say "Man, I should ski the Diamond," so getting it done felt really good. PM me for an address to send checks and trophies.

Huffington Post isn't exactly at the forefront of reporting ski descents. If you're looking for pics there are at least a few out there on a handful of ski related websites.

Actually, I saw the story first reported in the esteemed Fresno Bee (which we all know is an authoritative skiing publication), complete with 3 photos of their descent.

Re: Skiers Descend Vertical Clouds Rest in Yosemite
Having stared down the steep granite slopes of Cloud's Rest in amazement on several hikes, I would be very impressed by a ski descent. It is hard to imagine much snow sticking to that smooth granite too.
The picture in the Huffington Post does not look like Cloud's Rest to me, and the nearest ski lifts should be in Badger Pass? I don't think you could see Cloud's Rest from below the lifts at Badger Pass? I can definitely be wrong, but I cannot make the geography make sense for me. Can anyone say whether the pic is Cloud's Rest? If so, where do you think the picture was taken from (somewhere south)? And what is the mountain in the background?

Don't necessarily believe the huffington post on its own, but these pics makes it look a little more legit to me

Then again, I didn't find anything on TGR and this seems like something they would talk about

wow, snow looks horrible...more of a descent to say they skied it instead of actually getting good turns.realhillboarding wrote:Don't necessarily believe the huffington post on its own, but these pics makes it look a little more legit to me

Looking at that one photo makes me wonder if anyone in California knows how to ski.

Uh, another first that isn't a first. Pretty sure it's been skied before, 2001. A certain resident of Big Oak Flat, CA may take exception to this article if he had internet access.
