Wow, I hope he recovers well. My partner and I did the traverse on Sunday but didn't see anyone else after leaving the El Diente summit around 10ish. It's a fun climb, but definitely loose and airey in places.

I was with Matt (dubsho3000) when he fell Sunday. A rock came loose on the traverse and he pitched over the edge. He suffered a traumatic fracture of the ankle and is recovering in the hospital now. We are extremely grateful to the entire team that helped with his rescue. The SAR team, sheriff's dept., and national guard were all incredible. I am also very thankful for the climbers who ran into us after the fall and stayed with us through the entire ordeal. Jeff and Aaron helped us down the mountain with all of our gear and escorted Joanne and I back to our camp. A Boston man and his wife helped us pack out in the morning. We are forever grateful to all of these wonderful and selfless people. Thank you.

Wishing Matt a speedy recovery. Must have been a scary situation, and I'm glad he survived to hike another day. As always, kudos to SAR. They are an amazing group of folks.

Matt, I hope you have a full recovery! Hopefully in time for the ski season at least.

Yikes man, they just don't build mountains like they used to!
Cheers to SAR and for your improvised "team" to help Matt off the mountain. Thank goodness he's recovering, sending good thoughts from Boulder!

Wishing you a full and speedy recovery Matt! Very glad this had a better outcome than it certainly could have.
Mountains cast spells on me - Why, because of the way Earth-heaps lie, should I be Chocked by joy mysteriously; stilled or drunken-gay? Why should a brown hill trail Tug at my feet to go? Why should a boggy swale Tune my heart to a nameless tale Mountain marshes know?

My best to Matt. Relieved this has a good outcome.
My complete admiration to the Rescue Teams and National Guard. To pluck a person from 14,000, especially on that ridgeline, is one of the most amazing feats I've ever heard of. In complete awe. If there are any pics of this available, I'd love to see them.

Re: Hiker rescued after fall near El Diente
Glad Matt got a second chance and he is OK. Wishing you very speedy recovery! I definitely won't forget this place. I was doing the traverse exactly a year ago on Sunday and when getting closer to Mt Wilson, I touched a loose boulder that decided to come down and pulled me down with all the other rocks. I was very lucky because before going over the cliff I was able to grab a stable boulder and the slide went over me. Will never forget that feeling...Fun but dangerous 2 mountains.
