George, I didn't now you broke you leg.... wow, I think if I click into my alpines I will take switching out the soles more seriously.

Bean, The endorphins have a plastic connector between the heel and toe so no such trickery is possible unless you break the plastic. It just occurred to me though that I could use the alpine sole screwed into a 2x4 for tuning my skis, my clamps are 20 years old and I am too cheap to replace them for a pair that accepts modern skis.

Yeah, and in retrospect I fear that it was a small fine tuning of gear oversight that ended up becoming a huge mistake, resulting is significant injury. On one hand it was an idiot move on my part that I often feel like kicking myself for (with my good leg), on the other hand it's seems like a small detail that could be easy to overlook for somebody else, so I shared it here in the hopes that I would help others from making the same mistake.

Sorry to divert the thread though...on with the ski setup role call.

Sorry lordhelmut, but it's Plethora - as in a Plethora of Piñatas.

Woohoo! Benners and I were out on James Peak a couple of days ago, and though neither one of us was on his A-game, it was fun enough to relight the fires. So greetings once again, ladies and gents. And what better way to begin the season than a good brag-fest.

In fact, RoanMtMan and JCWhite - I'll take ya on. Here goes. (BTW, Benners, Ossie322 and Bonedale Dolly have seen my garage and can vouch for this.)

Nordic gear:
Classic, hard snow: Fischer RCS Air Carbon, 210 cm, Salomon Profil bindings
Soft (cold) snow: Elan RB, 210 cm, Salomon Profil
Light touring: Jarvinin Polar 52, 210 cm, Salomon Profil
The above go with my Salomon Profil Combi boots
Skating: Fischer RCS Plus Skate, 195 cm, Salomon Pilot
Skating boots: Salomon RS9 Pilot

BC gear:
Telemark: Tua Big Easy MX, 192 cm, Rainey
Asolo Snowfield II boots (that's right, LEATHER, baby)
Randonee (French for "training wheels", I admit):
Dynafit FT 10.0., 178 cm, Naxo NX 22 (15 14ers last spring on these babies)
Scarpa Denali TT boots

Inbounds:
For steep hills: Salomon X-wing Fury, 184 cm, Salomon 12TI
Salomon Xscream 9.0 boots
For going fast: Volkl P50 GS, 188 cm, Marker Comp 1400
For going faster: Rossignol CX Course, 213 cm, Salomon Equipe 997 (formerly owned by one Picabo Street)
Nordica Dobermann World Cup boots
For the pow: Nordica Blower, 185 cm, to be mounted with Fritschi Freerides
For tele, inbounds: Crispi CXU boots

To be given away soon:
Atomic Beta Ride 10.ex, 184 cm, Salomon S810 (for a buddy down on the Front Range)
K2 Shuksan, 190 cm, Fritschi Diamir (for my brother)
Volant Ti Powercarve, 185 cm, Karhu 7tm (tele) (for the aforementioned impoverished buddy)

Recently given away:
Ride Tempest snowboard, 165 cm, forgot the binding brand
Atomic TM22, 176 cm, Karhu 7tm
Atomic TM.ex, 190 cm, Karhu 7tm

And my ice-axe collection:
Workhorse: BD Raven, 65 cm
Loaner: Faders, 65 cm
New toy: BD Venom, 50 cm
I also carry a Whippet, and I'm not afraid to use it (any more).

And assorted shovels, beepers (Beartracker and Ortovox), probes, packs, etc.

If we all got together, we could have one hell of a garage sale! I also picked up most of this at gear swaps (friends don't let friends pay full retail), and lately I have had great luck at fund-raising silent auctions.

Cheers! :D

Caveat emptor. My first attempt with Zealots I mounted them with Freerides and was skiing them with Garmont Axons (slightly stiffer than Spirit 4s). I thought they were garbage and the mounting point was way off. Remounted them with alpine bindings at +3cm and started skiing them with stiff alpine boots - I now consider the Zealots the best ski I've ever owned. They don't come alive until you're moving fast so you've gotta be able to drive them. But if your boots are dialed in, they are absurdly damp and stable for how light they are.

BD Zealots w/ S914s (resort and hikeable slackcountry)
BD Kilowatts w/ Fritschi Eagles and G3 Alpinist Skins (long tours, non-pow tours)
BD Megawatts w/ Fritschi Eagles and G3 Alpinist Skins (pow tours, deep resort days)

And Rossi B-Squads w/ Zipfit liners for resort and backcountry or Garmont Axons w/ Intuition liners for the longest tours.

I didn't have any problems skiing the Zealots last year with my Denali's, or Tornados. I've decided not to put Freerides on my new ones though. I'm going to go with the G3 Onyx instead. I like what they've done with the dyna fit design, I could actually work on those bindings and not get pissed off at them. Too bad your Zealots didnt pan out the first time. I know a few people that get rocked by those things.

^^^^^ I was fondling a pair of G3 Onyx at Bentgate the other day. I was impressed with how substantial and burly the toe piece was, but the heel was not quite as inspiring, but still looked good. It will be interesting to see how well the brakes for these work, if they ever release them.

good to other companies coming out with "tech" bindings now that some of the patents have expired. Ski Trab has a very promising designs in the works.

The brakes are out Wilderness Sports in Dillon and Mountain Outfitters in Breck both have them. They also have a ski crampon that fits. I spoke to the rep the other day and he said what they are working on now is a foot puck for the folks that ski tech mounts on NTN boots. The puck keeps the billows from flexing when the heel is locked.

If I'd known we were going to bring all of our winter travel gear out.... on second thought that would take way to long to document.... Yep that would be one hell of a garage sale...

Nice stash. If you hear a late night rumble in the garage, please don't shoot. I am very good about returning borrowed items.

Here's my current set of equipment...

Backcountry

Salomon X-Wing Fury 170cm with Freeride bindings (my favorite AT setup do date)
Black Diamond Havoc 173cm with Freeride bindings
Black Diamond Kilowatt 185cm with Freeride bindings
K2 Coomback (new for 2009/10) 181cm with Freeride bindings (for bc big powder days)
K2 Shuksan 174cm with Freeride bindings (rock skis)

Backcountry Boots
Black Diamond Factor AT boots (primary boot)
Scarpa Hurricane AT boots
Garmont Adrenaline AT boots (longer trips) I don't use these as much because they aren't strong enough and the cuff is too low

Alpine
K2 Outlaw 174cm with Marker Mod 12 bindings
Salomon X-Wing Fury 170cm with Salomon 12Ti bindings
K2 Coomback 181cm with Freeride bindings (my new powder skis for both bc and alpine)
K2 Axis XP 181cm with Salomon S914 bindings (bumps, speed)
K2 Axis X 181cm with Salomon S914 bindings (early season rock skis)

Alpine Boots
Nordica Supercharger Blower (Flex 130)
Nordica Speedmachine 14 (Flex 130-120)

I'll leave off the garage full of older skis/boots that I no longer use!
Think snow!
