Hanging Mud Puddle

Post by Chicago Transplant »

But you might know it as Hanging Lake... The Glenwood Canyon mudslides have turned this once green-blue lake at least temporarily into a brown mud puddle. It actually had been spared by the fires last year and still has a lot of green trees around it, but the latest wave of muddy rains hit it. I know its a bit of a tourist trap, but it was really pretty and the travertine that makes up its shore is unique and fragile. Hopefully it will recover.

Drone footage of side canyon blowouts. Hard to believe I70 will reopen soon -- or that it won't close again soon.

This is one tourist trap that I’m glad to have seen before the fires and floods. While it’s popular to say “the mountains will always be there”, in this case, it’s still there, but damaged. It will clear out, eventually, I hope. Sometimes tomorrow is too late.

Yeah it's not like that draw got washed down to bedrock - that video showed that there's still tons more unstable land up there getting ready to slide.
