I am very excited for 2022 and I have a lot planned now that I know my body can handle most things I throw at it.

-Make more mountain friends
-Get into and run the Ouray 50 miler and various other 50s with hopes my base will be high enough to run a 100 in 2023
-Grand Canyon R2R2R
-Complete the Chicago Basin 14ers from Purgatory in 1 day
-Collect some of the more difficult 50 high points (such as Utah, WY and MT)
-Finish off the CO and CA 14ers, including a Palisade traverse
------ CA 14ers climbed so far are Williamson, Whitney and Muir
-Little Bear-Blanca and the Bells Traverse
-Climb the Grand Teton
-Have fun and stay alive

I'd like to get 10 more 14ers done in 2022 along with whatever other 13ers I happen to have the opportunity to do. Doesn't matter which ones at this point as long as I am in the mountains.

Also, I need to make sure I GET TO THE SAN JUANS!

WanderingJim wrote: Wed Dec 01, 2021 10:31 am My main goal is to hike as much of the Japan Alps (and maybe a 3rd time up Fuji). That will depend on my being able to fly to and get into Japan, of course.

Backup plans are doing the entire JMT again and maybe some more Colorado 14ers.
That's great, I loved it there. Which peaks are you targeting in Japan?
Still pretty early in the planning, but this is the current wish list (asterisks would be repeats in the North Alps where I did two loops in 2016). How much I do or even plan to do on the final hikes is unknown. A lot of these are traverses over ridge lines, so not a lot of ups and down (and nothing over 10.5k except fuji).

South Alps
8-9 day traverse
Kita-dake
Ai-no-dake
Mibu-dake
Kita-arakawa-dake
Shiomi-dake
Kogōchi-dake
Mae-dake
Naka-dake
Warusawa-dake
Akaishi-dake
Usagi-dake
Hijiri-dake
Tekari-dake
Chausu-dake

Central Alps
2-3 day traverse
Kiso-koma-ga-take
Kaka-dake
Hoken-dake
Hinokio-dake
Kumasawa-dake
Utsugi-dake

North Alps
2 day loop
Mt Shirouma-dake
Shirouma-dake
Yari-ga-take
Tengu-no-kashira
Karamatsu-dake
Shiro-dake
OPTIONAL: 2-3 additional days to go down to Ogisawa (on Alpine Route, so can go over to Murodo from here):
Goryu-dake
Kashima-yari-ga-dake
Jii-ga-take

Murodo to Kamikochi traverse
8-9 days

Start in Murado
Tsurugi-gozen *
Ippuku-tsurigi *
Mae-tsurugi *
Tsurugi-dake *
Bes-san *
Tate-yama *
Onanji-yama *
O-yama *
Jodo-san
Sugo-=no-kashira
Kita-yakushi-dake
Yakushi-dake
Taro-san
Kita-no-mata-dake
Kurobegoro-dake
Mitsumata-renge-dake
Surgoroku-dake (optional)
Momisawa-dake
Yari-ga-take *
Naka-dake *
The Daikiretto *
Minami-dake *
Kita-hotaka-dake *
Karasawa-dake *
Oku-hotaka-dake *
Mae-hotaka-dake *
End in Kamikochi
Day hike up Yake-dake from Kamikochi (optional)

A lot of those will depending on how well I hold up. Fortunately, there are an extensive network of mountain huts in the Japan alps that will mean I don't have to backpack this all.

If I survive all that, then it would end with me going up Fuji via the Subashiri trail and then descending via Fujinomiya trail (mostly since I've done the other two Fuji trails already).

This will leave me with 4 or 6.
Finally go scuba diving again.
Hike 500 miles.
It would be fun to go to mt. Hood.

I might add something to this, but here's what I've got for now:

-1000 miles running and hiking (combined)
-Run the Bolder Boulder (10K)
-At least one backpacking trip
-15+ new ranked summits
-5+ new summits in Boulder and/or Larimer Counties
-3+ new Lost Creek Wilderness summits
-At least one day with 3+ summits
-Complete the CMC’s Alpine Climbing School
-Rock climb outside or in the gym on a roughly weekly basis

My 2022 goals, which are more aspirational than bucket list must-do's:

-Climbing: More of the same, 5th class peaks. I have a list of a few (<10) that are of interest, a few (2-3) are higher priority, e.g. new LIDAR peaks, etc. And there are a few ranked & unranked peaks in Dinosaur National Monument, a favorite area, that I'd like to get to via off trail, circuitious possibly dangerous routes. High adventure!

-Paddling: 2022 is shaping up to be an awful year for river sports, low snowpack = low runoff = low water flow. We'll see. That aside, maybe an early season (April) run down the Yampa, hopefully at >1,000 cfs (we did it a couple of years back at 850, it was OK, not great). An interesting alternative is a packraft sojourn down the Escalante in UT, but that's apparently hard to nail on the cfs, esp in a drought. Again, we'll see...

-Cycling: I'd like to up my annual mileage to north of 3,000 miles, and I have a few other loose cycling goals: Ride to the border of Kansas (finally?!?), a long day at 170 miles, and maybe a multi-day jaunt to Oklahoma. I've also always wanted to do an unsupported solo double century ride (200 miles); maybe if my training doesn't fall apart in 2022 I can pull it off.

-And Everything Else: Wife, kids, family, work. Always gotta balance the above loose goals with the Everything Else!

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy & productive 2022!

-Tom

This will probably change, given the never ending pandemic waves:

Centennials, hopefully 10 or so.
14er repeats with friends. Gonna do them all again.
Couple more Cascade peaks, e.g. Adams, Shasta.
Aim for 100 K vertical over the course of the year, and / or 400 miles hiking.
Mont Blanc
Orizaba
EBC
Ausangate trek
Ski 30 days or more
Travel to the Gulf region since I’ve never been
Mayan world
Ethiopia

Stay healthy
Stay sane
Stay employed
Find that rad dude to make my life whole
