Messing around with shapes and colored pencils. Not mountains.

Not spot on, but the first thing I thought of was Lake Bled, Slovenia.fleetmack wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2017 9:06 am My grandpa made a few of these (like the Matterhorn above). I took a picture of this one at my parents' house a few months ago, I have no idea if it is just a made up mountain, or if it's modeled after something. Does anybody know if this is a real place?

Re: Let's see your artwork!
I'm rarely on here any more, sorry. Had 3 kids in 2 years and now I don't do squat, lol.
I have since found the source of my grandpa's 2nd picture (the one directly above this post). It is Chillon Castle on Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Oddly, I have driven right past that years ago! Picture for reference.

Re: Let's see your artwork!
Fleet, thanks for identifying the scene. It's really nice to know where it is and what exactly inspired your grandfather. It certainly did seem likely that it was somewhere like Switzerland or at least somewhere in the Alps because of the castle.
And thanks for revitalizing the thread. I've neglected in adding some more of my own. With the covid restrictions and staying more close to home in 2019-2020, I was working on more pieces as well. I'm adding a few that I've finished in the past year and a half.
After doing an autumn scene back in 2016 (see page 3 of this thread), I always wanted to do a set of all the four seasons. Together they make a nice collection.

Re: Let's see your artwork!
Cougar, I also meant to tell you before that I love your city painting, which is kind of in the style of cubism. It reminds me of El Greco's View of Toledo in a Storm. I first saw this classic painting in our World Book Encyclopedia when I was about 7-8 years old, and it was the painting that got me interested in art.
Cubism is one of my favorite styles of art. My wife and I purchased a plaster sculpture of a string quintet shortly before we got married. We love it! So it became a model for a fabric art piece I finished recently. But because it was too narrow and wide, I reduced it to a string trio instead.
Again, thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread! Previous submitters and new ones always welcome to share their work. I also love to see the different media some people will use.

One of my favorite paintings I've done yet.
Been doing Bob Ross paint and sip sessions, he is a great teacher. Although they take way longer than the 20 min episodes.

Re: Let's see your artwork!
Very cool, Amy! I see a woman spirit grounded, or rooted, in the Earth, thriving and growing new life buds and reaching to the light above. I also love your additional life, the small bird and dog (rabbit?) taking shelter in the Mother Tree, the Materfamilias. I always admire the more abstract stuff but have never been able to accomplish it well. I'd love to see more of your work!
And nice job, Scary! Always enjoy another mountain scene.

Re: Let's see your artwork!
Thanks for reviving this thread, Eli.
And a very nice poem! I'm assuming, since you didn't offer a credit or source, that you wrote it?
You might consider moving it to this thread, which might be slightly more appropriate:

But thanks for sharing it!
