Re: Your Top 5 Bands and/or Musicians of all Time
There is nothing bass-enthusiast related from the Butthole Surfers, but they're one of the weirdest, most innovative acts of my lifetime.
This thread really took off again after you posted the bass list. Nice work. Both Pilgrim's song and King Crimson rock. I had never heard King Crimson before.
Since funk is on the menu, here are some of my faves from Maceo Parker. The second clip is much faster than the first. Both feature bass that makes it shake.
We'll start with "Two percent Jazz, 98% Funky stuff." Happy Music.
This guy put on some of the longest, most energetic shows I've ever seen and this album should be required for anyone who digs funk and jazz.

Dude. If I may. Go do yourself a flavor and free up a little time to listen to their entire "in the court of the Crimson king" album.
That album was kinda mind altering for me...or was it the substances that may have been consumed when I first heard it in its entirety. Either way.
And agreed, I always appreciate 12ers input on this thread!

In the meantime, no discussion of funk is complete without a mention of the Meters and their amazing bassist, George Porter, Jr. My first time seeing them (Austin, mid 90s) was nothing short of a funk revelation. The bass was alive, or maybe it was the substances that may have been consumed, right?
Their rhythm section rates among the all-time tightest and greatest of funk.
Their show as "The Meter Men" at the Ogden (or was it Fillmore) with Paige McConnell a few years back was sublime.

Said list included Stanley Clarke, but was not commented on further. Stanley Clarke is the bassmaster supreme and did things with a bass guitar that I’ve never heard anything quite like.

How about Stanley Clarke playing with Keith Richards and Ron Wood. Ladies and gentleman, the New Barbarians...

I just bought Zack Myers signature guitar, and hadn't really ever listened to his band Shinedown. But figured I should learn a few of I'm going to play a guitar with his name on it.
They're not my new favorite, but they've got some good ones. Pleasant surprise.

How’d you color coordinate the background carpet?

Which matches the trim and paint scheme.
So you bought that guitar to match the room then...if you’d have had a different room, you might have a different guitar, maybe like this:
. Harder to play tho.

It is difficult for me to imagine recording studio with Maceo Parker and Marcus Miller AND Ronnie Spector AND Johnny Marr gathered together, but it appears that's just a Tuesday at work for Bryan Ferry:
If Eno then stops by, just to say hi or pick up something he forgot there, he will get credits for "sonic ambience", "sonic distress" and "swoop treatments", like on Mamouna album for example.
