Re: Your Top 5 Bands and/or Musicians of all Time
Okay, time for the year end poll. What are your favorite releases of 2020?
I won't claim to have great in depth knowledge of the latest music, and so this isn't set in stone. And I wouldn't say any of these bowled me over in a life-altering way, but here are the releases that might hold up over time for me:
Haim - Women in Music Pt III - need more listens, but made me think of Liz Phair
Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters - not her best, but still better than most
Waxahatchee - Saint Cloud - I REALLY wish she didn't strain at the edge of her range on Fire, but the rest is good
Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia - that might surprise some of you, but it's a good tonic for the times
The Strokes - The New Abnormal - they're staying in their lane. If they stay much longer, they might wear it into a rut, but for now I like that lane
Bob Dylan - Rough and Rowdy Ways - Although I've never been a huge fan, I can appreciate him a bit, including this one

I don't discover a lot of new music, as I mostly listen to dad rock and 70's prog (shoutout to all the dads out there), but I've been pretty obsessed with a new band who put out their first album this year called "the first glass beach album". It's a really interesting mix of MCR-style 00's emo and more recent AltJ-style folktronica. Really fun record.

Without a doubt my favorite 2020 album releases:
Sleepy Sun - Fever (Desert God quickly jumped into one of my favorite songs) edit: turns out it's a 2010 release, go figure
King Buffalo - Dead Star (I like a few tracks more than others, Orion (2016) was a stronger album for me start-to-finish from them)
Glass Animals - Dreamland (How to Be a Human Being (2016) was tough to follow)
...plus several hip hop singles.

I believe that album came out in 2010. Thanks for bringing that song to my attention though. I only know "Marina".Eli Watson wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 12:08 pmWithout a doubt my favorite 2020 album releases:

Rachel Fannan was awesome with them. I saw her with Black Mountain on their last tour. I really dig Black Mountain, but they really need to fire their sound guy. Saw them at the Bluebird in 11/19, and it was way too loud and distorted.
Speaking of Black Mountain:

Here’s a great artist compilation to meet the time period
