14ers.com Happy Hour for July

Post by wildlobo71 »

After some discussion with Admins about this month's Happy Hour event, we've decided to forego for July for two reasons - the Fourth holiday made our internal calendars all wonky, and we'd like to spend a second or two promoting the Launch Party for Summit Ascents International, an endeavor that includes our friends Sam Sala, Alex Sanders, Kendra Miller, Scott None.

Their party will be at New Terrain Brewing in Golden at 5pm on Thursday; they will have a brief presentation about their group, there will be raffles with some pretty cool prizes. If you are new to this world of climbing and want to take your game further, this is the group with the experience to help you on your way - be it climbing foreign peaks, or learning the skills needed for rock and ice climbing. Come by and say hello! A link to their Facebook Invite is below.

See you in August for the next 14ers.com Happy Hour.

Hold on a second, so people are using the happy hours as a business promotional event? If they want to do a promo for their guide service fine but advertising it here and calling it a 14ers.com happy hour seems...shady.

Jon - nothing shady about it. Don't come if you feel strongly about this forum not hosting, or publicizing, anything outside of a 14ers event. And we didn't call this an event for 14ers HH - it's instead of 14ers HH.

These are 14ers friends and fellow climbers and I thought it would be a nice boost in helping them get a project started. I did this - not DYBM, not anyone else.

Thursday will be here and gone before you know it.

In following with standard alpine rules, it's not a self-promoting event unless if it has one of these:

So, we're in the clear. Carry on, gents.

Bumping for July 2022.

That would fall on Thursday July 7, so peeps who aren't taking the whole week off should be back in town from the 3 day holiday weekend.

Thanks in advance for organizing this Bill =D>

There are some fun (non-Zoom) options for happy hours. JUST SAYING. I love this one: GatherTown. You play as an 8-bit character with location triggers for video chats with other users; it's possible to sit around a table chatting with 10 people at once, or move around between smaller groups. You can even integrate games like Pictionary. Pretty damn close to the feel of an actual happy hour in a bar. :-"

"There have been joys too great to describe in words, and there have been griefs upon which I cannot dare to dwell; and with those in mind I say, 'Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end.'" - Edward Whymper

Hopefully we start doing these again soon. It's been weird/crappy not having done any in the last year now...Nevermind the cancelation of the Gatherings as well.
