Re: 2021 Goals
Looks like you got past your boil cyst tumor thing you posted about. Climbing career not over, eh?!
Re: 2021 Goals
50% on the 14ers, 10% on the 13ers - so 50 new 13ers and 16 new 14ers. gotta love still having summer break, enjoying it while it lasts. Most importantly, stay injury free and continue to enjoy climbing.
Re: 2021 Goals
Not yet. That's one reason everything I did this month was easy. Except for one short canyon I didn't do anything that required using my right arm. Supposed to get surgery on July 20. Maybe a few weeks after that, it will be better? Then I can hopefully do some technical stuff-if I can find some partners.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.
Re: 2021 Goals
June was a solid month for me, and it came at the right time, because I was really feeling like I needed to "get out there."
1. Hike at least 150 miles and 50,000 vertical feet – nearly there! I'm at 170 miles and 42,000 vertical feet. I've also ran (slowly) an additional 530 miles and 34,000 vertical feet (some trail, some road).
2. 100 career ranked peaks – completed 5/29 on Pt 7790 (Boulder County). Since then, I'm up to 109 peaks.
3. 50 career Boulder County ranked peaks – completed 5/15 on South Sheep Mountain. Currently at 52 peaks.
4. 20 career IPW ranked peaks – still none (stuck at 15). I tried for Jasper and its unnamed neighbor to the south, but snow knocked me off route. I thought I could make my route work, but got into large, unstable talus on an ascending traverse, and decided to turn around and try the actual route when the snow melts.
5. Finish the Raymond quad in Boulder County – completed 5/15 on South Sheep Mountain
6. Backpack into Pine Creek; hike at least three 14ers and two 13ers from base camp. Not yet. Will it happen this year?
7. Go on at least one backpacking trip (could be the above trip or a different one) – I went on a wonderful four-day backpack in June in the LCW. I started from the Brookside-Payne TH near Bailey, hiked over the pass, and set up base camp in Craig Park. The next day I hiked the Alphabetizer+Kenosha, and the third day I hiked some of the Platte River Mountains. Packed out on day 4. It was really fun to knock so many peaks down in a single trip.
8. Hike at least one peak in a national park other than Rocky – not yet.
9. Decalibron – I hope this opens soon!
10. Bison Peak in the LCW – not yet, but on my list.
11. And above all, enjoy nature – oh yeah!
12. Don't get COVID. – check

Re: 2021 Goals
Well, I don’t know if you ever beat stage IV cancer, but I’m giving it my best effort.
So far this year….
In February I completed 12 biweekly chemo treatments (Fulfox regimen). (Third chemo treatment in past two years.)
In early March, Mr. Spot on my left lung got 5100 cGy of radiation. (Second radiation treatment in past two years)
In late March, I had abdominal hernia surgery. (Fourth surgery in the past two years)
Plus, the usual poking and probing. And scans. (too numerous to count)
Currently, I’m on ‘maintenance’ therapy. (Chemo in smaller doses administered biweekly).
I have resumed mountain biking with 15 rides of GM / BCLP in the past two months.

Keep grinding, Ricky. Easy for me to say. Hats off you, sir, and all the best for a successful outcome.rijaca wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 11:28 amWell, I don’t know if you ever beat stage IV cancer, but I’m giving it my best effort.

dr_j wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 4:00 pm Always good to read what people are trying to accomplish this year. Mine were interrupted last year by travel restrictions and the rona, so hopefully with the vaccine and such I can get back to enjoying those Colorado summers once more. So in no particular order, these are outdoors-related goals:
Stay healthy and employed. I’m mentally drained from the past nine months and have managed to dodge the virus so far. Some of my friends have not been so lucky, and some of my fellow employees have not made it. Got vaccinated, then got traveling as soon as possible after my second dose back in late March.
Complete the 58. No progress, season’s still early. Looking for partners for my remaining (hard) peaks.
Start the Cents.
Get to 6000 m. Probably the Andes.
International travel once more, get to a few more countries. I like Latin America.
Cascade peaks- Hood, Adams, Sisters, Shasta. Snagged Hood and St. Helens in fine weather back in May. Hood was challenging, especially on 30 minutes of sleep.
50000+ ft vertical for the year. Well okay, 75000+ is a reasonable goal. Currently around 32000’, basically on track.
Ski a 14er, or more. And more hiking for turns in general, like about 1/4 to 1/3 of my days on a board. 34 days this season, and about a third were > 1000 feet of hiking. That kept me in reasonable aerobic condition.
More barefoot 14ers, and hiking in general. Now most of my non-snow hikes. Checked Elbert off my list a couple weeks ago.
