That's what I expected and why I asked. There's a reason the mountain in unclimbed.

Private expeditions to the remote areas of Antarctica run $250,000-$500,000 for transport only and Siple is in one of the more remote parts of the continent.

Even private transportation to Patriot Hills (much less remote than Mt. Siple) runs $140,000 for 1-2 climbers and $250,000 for 3-6.

$500,000 is about what I would expect.

And, no I can't go unfortunately.

You can get in touch with Damien Gildea (who has probably climbed more Antarctic peaks than anyone else) and see if he has any advice or contacts.

Yep, as of 2013/2014 flights were in the $30k-$35k range at least that was to Union Glacier from Punta Arenas.

At those prices, you'd be better off buying your own plane for the trip and selling it after, or going into the business. Adapted for Antarctica is tougher. The big expedition climbers have sponsors. Some use very long ground approaches.

Also Erebus is in Antarctica and Elbrus in Russia. Similar names that get mixed up quite a bit, but Erebus is much more accessible being right near McMurdo and the coast.

Antarctica is a big place; roughly 8.5 times larger than Alaska and bigger than the United States and Mexico combined.

I assume $24K was to somewhere like Union Glacier, which has facilities and is fairly easy to reach by Antarctica standards. Getting to somewhere like Mt. Siple would be much more difficult and expensive.

That would be a heck of an investment though. The cheapest plane I see that is typically flown to remote places in Antarctica cost $7 million. Maybe there are cheaper ones?

Just for the heck of it though, I'm going to contact Damien Gildea though and see what he thinks. He's the only one I know of who has done several peaks other than Vinson in Antarctica.

I heard back from Damien. He said that ALE (if that's who you contacted) would charge a minimum of $500,000 to get to that part of Antarctica, so what you were quoted is the going rate and you very likely won't be able to get there for cheaper than that.

I reached out to numerous companies that support expeditions to Antarctica they all said no and they do their own thing. I was able to get that 1/2 mil number from ANTARCTIC LOGISTICS & EXPEDITIONS. He said the big expense is fuel caches between camps and the best way to cover expenses would be crowdfunding. Guess we'll see where I go from here.
