Mt. Siple Expedition 2022

Post by homicide133 »

Hey everyone,
I'm putting together an expedition to summit Mt. Siple in Antarctica. If interested, here's the link to the FB page. Looking for 6-8 people that have glacier travel experience and willing to commit to the adventure / expedition.
Thanks,
Steve

Why mount Siple?

Is it because its potentially not climbed?

How are you getting there? I don't know if anyone has ever climbed Siple, but it is likely an easy climb (most shield volcanoes are), but it would be incredibly difficult to get there.

I wish anyone luck who attempts it though.

I can't help but wonder if your username might discourage some people from randomly joining in and traveling to one of the most remote places on earth :-D

Good luck to everyone who is going. Mt. Siple is the highest unclimbed point in Antarctica and probably difficult to get to the base. Although the climb itself is probably relatively easy.

Thanks for the comments so far. I have been in contact with a company that is willing to transport from McMurdo to Siple. No worries about the username and not looking to kill anyone in a remote area. Yes, I'd like to climb Siple as no one else has.

How much do they charge to do that? Just curious.

Also curious on that one. I know Elbrus is pretty expensive, and thats a common transport area for Antarctica anyways.

Just received an email from a company and they want $500,000 to move/support 4 climbers. They're flippin nuts.

Also, I climbed Mt. Elbrus in Russia in 2019. Cost me $900 for guide and $1000 for flight and $350 for VISA. Fairly cheap actually.

Yeah... Antarctica isn't cheap, seems to be fairly well known. Had you not looked into that before trying to rally random internet denizens for a first ascent expedition?

From what I had read it the past, a flight was around $24k. That was only the flight.

I agree. Elbrus is pretty cheap. $350 for a visa though; that's gone way up.
