Hiking with ghosts

Post by Scott P »

So I was downloading an SD card and found this photo. I do a lot of night hiking (or snowshoeing). Apparently I accidentally took this photo? So was I hiking with ghosts or what?

I mean the blue looks like the sky and you can get some odd stuff if you had a slow shutter speed. But I had something turn up in a photo one time too. So idk.

Maybe check the EXIF data and get the date and time etc?
I support reintroducing grizzlies and wolves to their historic ranges.

Does one of your hiking partners have a blue jacket?

I take wacky pics often with digital cameras. At least we’re not wasting film! ;)

It's my son with a blue backpack. What I can't figure out though is that the black thing looks like a shadow and there was no one behind me. My camera is clipped to the front of my backpack strap below my shoulder.

Ghosts don't cast shadows.

Although maybe they absorb the light, and that's what you're seeing!

Could be the third man, but I thought this phenomenon generally only occurs during type-3 fun.

Is it possible that your light source was illuminating some of the snow behind you as well as the snow in front of you, thereby making you the source of the shadow? The shadow may not have been as pronounced to the human eye, so it wasn't something you took note of and remembered.
