Fire resources

Post by daway8 »

It's that time of year again - there are already a couple threads talking about fires in different places in and near Colorado so I thought it would be good to share a couple basic resources for new folks who haven't seen them yet.

One good place to find data on smoke plumes is https://hwp-viz.gsd.esrl.noaa.gov/smoke/index.html

Another option is https://fire.airnow.gov/?lat=40&lng=-105&zoom=10

Right now the Pack Creek fire in Moab is sending smoke our way and the Straight Creek fire near Dillon has been causing intermittent I-70 closures, as noted in the other threads.

I found in the last major fire season that a neck gaiter worked surprisingly well for allowing me to breathe well on smoky days but others didn't find that to be the case. YMMV.

This is a good one as well - always handy to call the sheriff for the place you're planning to go if you're unsure (and this consolidates that information).

Sarcasm or not, it's not even funny to post something like this. Not at this time. Reported.
