Re: all national forests in California closed
The San Juan National Forest was closed in 2018 for the first time in its history. A large portion of the Pike National Forest was closed in 2002. Not sure if we'll ever see all our forests closed at once, but it's possible if conditions are dire enough and resources are stretched thin.
Re: all national forests in California closed
This is a predictable event in California every September. I just planned ahead to leave California for Colorado all of September this year. (not that my climbing recreation is important compared to the firefighters, residents, property and ecosystems that are in danger!)
Afaik,.there arent actually any major fires in Inyo currently, they just closed it pre-emptively to reduce the likelihood of people starting new fires or getting trapped. The closed lands are really a huge area, comprising basically the entire Sierra Nevada. So far in CO, I only recall lands in the immediate vicinity of a fire being closed (correct if I'm wrong). So I suspect the closure is more due to a difference in management philosophy vs. Colorado. So I doubt such a major closure would happen in CO.
I expect the closure will go on until December like last year (long after the fires are contained)

Re: all national forests in California closed
Last year all of Arapahoe and Roosevelt national forest were closed as the fires blew up in September. Not statewide but a big area.
