I grew up around Bangor, ME, and spent a few nights at my friend Joe King's house. His dad has written a few books.

More exciting for me, though, was meeting Eddie Van Halen in Caesar's in Vegas when I was 14. We hung out next to him while he played craps for a few minutes. Yeah, I guess you could hang out in casinos as a 14 year old at some point in the past.

Played craps with Jon Stewart and some of his entourage in LV in mid90’s for about an hour, nice guy, very small, we both made some money.

Stood in line for two hours for 96 Aves SC Finals tickets with Karl Mecklenburg(Bronco ring of fame), humble dude, chatted for quite a while…not about football, neither of us got tix.

Rode in RMI shuttle next to Dave Hahn and Ed Viesturs… Ed said virtually nothing, but Dave told a few hilarious stories.

Heard the distinctive voice of Darth Vader from right behind me going through airport security…just making eye contact with James Earl Jones was all I dared to do.

I met Dave Hahn on Rainier. Had the opportunity to compliment his jacket, which was the same as mine. The next day he carved a trench all the way to the summit and didn't look like he broke a sweat.

Henry Kissinger

No, strike that. The Long Ranger. Definitely the Long Ranger.

My meager addition to this otherwise star-studded thread:
- I met Conrad Anker at Neptune after a talk he gave a few years back.
- Famous to those few familiar with Cajun/old country music, Doug Kershaw sponsored my little league team when I was 13, and came by one night to sign our jerseys and watch us play.
Close encounters:
- My wife and I honeymooned at a resort near Puerto Vallarta, and one evening we were the only ones having dinner on the beach, until the waiter sat Jason Priestly and his family down at the table right next to ours. My older sister who was a big 90210 fan back in the day got a kick out of hearing that. At one point they got up to go play on the beach, and he left his phone on the table. My newly acquired spouse immediately vetoed my half-serious suggestion to take selfies with it.
- I could have sworn I saw Hamilton and Sansone coming down N. Table this summer one evening right before his centennials FKT, but it was dusk so I could be mistaken.
- A near miss: a few weeks ago I was debating whether to climb Longs on Monday or Wednesday, and chose the latter as the better weather day. According to his Instagram, Tommy Caldwell took his kids up on that Monday.

Ran into Jimmy Chin and Conrad Anker as my wife and I were coming off the Grand Teton a couple months ago. Turns out, they were headed up to climb the Grand with Jimmy's 7 year old daughter, Marina!

I saw The Long Ranger riding his bike into Leadville in August 2017 when he was in the midst of his self-powered Highest Hundred Project. I was driving to Aspen and he was headed the other way in the small neighborhood a few miles west of town. That was cool.

I was once on an airplane with both Gary Busey and Flava Flav. Same airplane. Yup.

When we were traveling from the Dolomites to the Ortler we were at Messner's house. We didn't knock on his door, but I wonder what he would say if we did (if he was home)? I didn't dare try it anyway, but I do wonder.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

Saw Bono of U2 from a distance in Dublin, Ireland, but doesn’t count since I didn’t meet him.
Checked out ice tools from Conrad Anker in the basement of the old Barrel Mountaineering in Bozeman. Was like having Michael Jordan explain the nuances of b-ball shoes.
I worked at Needles Outpost a couple years ago and Steve House walked in. Talked for a few minutes, he was climbing at Indian Creek with his family.

Jimmy Chin and Brie Larson. Was sitting at Jackson Hole Mountain guides base camp on the Grand and they walked up and stayed for several nights. They were filming a documentary that is now on Youtube. Jimmy was super cool, Brie was pretty meh. She apparently got her ass kicked out the route too, didn't see for myself as was in bed for a summit attempt and they were out well past nightfall.
