Smoke from the fires in the Great State of Arizona typically carry on towards the San Juans. My post was stating that I'd be upset if I had to deal with that again while vacationing in the San Juans.

Smoke is thickening in the Arkansas valley this evening. Princeton went from being sort of hazy all day to completely smothered right at sunset with even its outline fading. I hope this isn’t the trend until November.

Last time it was this hazy in Gunnison was when the two fires were in GJ and Glenwood.

Sadly I doubt it will help. Unless there's heavy enforcement idiots will still light campfires.

Looks like the Durango Train has also cancelled the next two days of service per their agreement with the USFS as apart of the 416 fire settlement. They say anything past the 15th is still on, but looking like those with train reservations are gonna get yanked around a lot this summer. Another reason to hike in from Purgatory!

I’ve actually forwarded social media post to the local sheriff office. I would like to think the rural sheriff’s would have a “woody” for front-range folks starting illegal fires in their county. I’ll approach anyone in the backcountry to offer advice/education on fires. If that doesn’t work, all route descriptions have the number for the local sheriff…
