Wheeler Peak (NM) Conditions
With the poor snowpack in the area this winter, was wondering when you all thought it might be ready for a trail run up there? Thinking around the end of the March ... Thanks!

"Low snow" doesn't mean "no snow." My guess is that you will still run into a fair amount of snow up there, particularly below treeline. Whether you can run it will depend upon how many snowshoers have beaten in a track.

Thanks! I see what conditions are like when I am in the area ... always like to have a few back up plans, so will play it by ear.

Let us know how it is! I might venture down there sometime soon.Hipparchus wrote:Thanks! I see what conditions are like when I am in the area ... always like to have a few back up plans, so will play it by ear.

I’m climbing Wheeler Saturday the 17th if anyone would like to join. I will post conditions.
The summit is a source of power. The long view gives one knowledge and time to prepare. The summit, by virtue of the dizzying exposure, leaves one vulnerable. A bit of confidence and a dash of humility is all we get for our work. Yet to share these moments with friends is to be human. C. Anker

I climbed Wheeler today via Williams Lake. Boot packed trail to tree line. Once at tree line you will climb up a a well traveled snow gully to get into the the basin. I was able to climb snow almost all the way to the ridge. With an early start the snow was in pretty good shape. Snowshoes not needed.
