Sorry, but the last one isn't correct. The capitol of Rhode Island isn't Providence.Above_Treeline wrote:A brown stickTory Wells wrote:What is brown and sticky?Above_Treeline wrote:Feel free to ask me questions

Providence
This is the capitol of Rhode Island:

Yeah seemed to be seeing it maybe 5 miles or so after turning on to 84? Right in front of the road, rather impressive, closer to Las Vegas (NM.)JChitwood wrote:You can see it from I-40 near Santa Rosa? I support reintroducing grizzlies and wolves to their historic ranges.

Yes, I suppose the Providence is the capital, not the capitol :D

...similarly, there is a highway sign on US 50 in Annapolis, MD guiding travelers to the "State Capital". They meant "Capitol", but the sign has been up for years and nobody has changed it yet. (yes, Annapolis IS the capital of Maryland).
But what about Hermit Peak...

Re: Hermit Peak, NM, Wow!
I saw this peak from south of Las Vegas on I-25 a couple months ago. It appears so prominent from the direction I had to pull up a map and figure out what it was. Would love to hike it some time, thanks for the info!
Re: Hermit Peak, NM, Wow!
I'm pretty sure you can't see Hermit Peak from Hwy 84 until you're almost to I-25. (I've driven that stretch of highway many times)Above_Treeline wrote:Yeah seemed to be seeing it maybe 5 miles or so after turning on to 84? Re: Hermit Peak, NM, Wow!
Above_Treeline was indeed correct. I came through this area yesterday on the way back from the Guadalupe Mountains NP. Not only can you see Hermit Pk clearly from the intersection of I-40 and Hwy 84, you can see it from a small rise on Hwy 219 about 12 miles south of there. I can’t accurately use Google Earth, but if Hermit is 10 miles north of Las Vegas then you can see it from at least 70 miles away.
