14ers.com

I am bringing a group of guys with varying experience to Breckenridge the first weekend of May. Any suggestions on 14ers that we would be able to attempt at this time of year? I was thinking Mt Evans and Mt. Bierstadt but know that the road to Summit Lake will not be open, making it a pretty long hike.
I was also thinking maybe Grays and Torreys peak or Quandary?

looking for suggestions on peaks that would require very little winter gear other than proper clothing. Thanks for your hlep.

It's not a 14er, but Atlantic Peak is a Centennial 13er nearby that is both accessible and safe via the west ridge route.

Depends on snow levels, but pretty much any 14er in the area is reasonable. Grays and Torreys, Quandary, Sherman, Decalibron, etc, all should be reasonable at that time of the year. Check trailhead conditions, since closures and snow levels on various trailheads will lengthen certain hikes, namely Sherman/Decalibron/Grays and Torreys.

Quandary has the advantage of easy trailhead access at any time of year.

I did Quandary on May 12 this year, temperature wasn’t bad, but there was a lot of deep snow.

Most 14ers will require a longer approach hike in May.

Each phase of winter has its characteristic avalanche causes and dangers. In the springtime the sun melts the upper snow which drains along the base of snow and weakens it. When it gets closer to the time you plan to hike, you should inquire here what trails might still have avalanche danger.
