Columbia Pt Early Season

Post by Snow_Dog_frassati »

This is just a shot in the dark to see if anybody has experienced climbing Columbia Point from S. Colony Lakes in the early season on a low snow year. The semester ends for me pretty soon here and I kind of want to get out for a more challenging adventure. I'm trying to figure out what I should expect if it ends up being this.

I don’t know about Columbia Point, but another option this time of year in the same area is Colony Baldy, which has the advantage of a trailhead that’s accessible for any vehicle.

If you go, can you please take a look and/or photo of the NW Couloir on Crestone? Thanks

I went last year on May 18. There was just a little bit of snow below treeline, not enough to warrant any special gear, no snow above tree line but some of the craziest wind I've ever experienced. I haven't looked at recent conditions but I suspect there's a little more snow this year.
The days I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations, I have really good days.

If I can either get it (mostly) dry or neve. If it's looking iced over I'll be skipping it.
