Re: Self Supported 14er Record Attempt
I started this day he’s on (Day 3, my first day was July 6) at 630 taking a little over 6 hours to do Handies/RC/SS; With ~7 hours of sleep the night before. If he can maintain on little sleep, Dan’s golden. I had the losing strategy of taking plenty of rest and consuming large quantities of food however.

Do you think you'll go for another attempt sometime?Jorts wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 9:57 am I started this day he’s on (Day 3, my first day was July 6) at 630 taking a little over 6 hours to do Handies/RC/SS; With ~7 hours of sleep the night before. Unlikely. It's a big time commitment away from family. But I love watching others like Dan tackle it. Once you've gone for something absurd like this you can really appreciate the effort going into it beyond the abstract.
Keep it up Dan!

He scared me awake! I said I would comply, then drank a bottle of 5 hour energy, put on Interstate by the Refreshments and drove the 6 hours home.12ersRule wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 11:46 amCaptainSuburbia wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 9:49 amHaving a driver is huge. Re: Self Supported 14er Record Attempt
Hey i just got an update from Dan on Wetterhorn. He said he feels pretty good now, although early this morning was rough on Redcloud and Sunshine. He was dehydrated and vomited once and took a fall coming down Redcloud. Fortunately he missed some rain that is currently hitting Redcloud and Sunshine but is dry on Wetterhorn. He is running just about an hour or so behind where he would like to be, plans on finishing Wetterhorn and Uncompahgre by 7:00pm then driving to San Luis.
Doing this self supported is truly a large undertaking there is no one to fix you up when you come stumbling back to your vehicle!
I’m sorry i missed Brent’s attempt last year!

Thanks Andrew, Brent, CaptainSuburbia, Rob, Eric, and Justin for adding your comments on the real stuff behind the blue triangle and split times. I can see the time impact of the crew but your comments make it feel more real.

Re: Self Supported 14er Record Attempt
Here are the stats as of his start from West Willow Creek this morning just over three days in.
If anyone is interested in comparison to Andrew's 2015 FKT I can provide those.

Dan's crushing it today, about to summit San Luis. Then presumably moving on to the Blanca Group.
Since I earlier questioned his start point on Sneffels, thought I'd point out... he definitely started way down the road for San Luis to ensure 3000ft. It's kind of a miserable start and finish point: you're on a 2WD gravel road with a low grade so you have no choice but to park about a mile or so from the true TH ~11.5k. You can see the parking lot for the TH way off in the distance. And as you're running to and from your vehicle on this stretch, you're getting passed by the likes of red plated Hyundai Sonatas and Chevy Tahoes. A true character builder!
If he knocks out the Blanca group this afternoon, guessing a "rest day" tomorrow with Culebra and Lindsey.

Re: Self Supported 14er Record Attempt
A summit track to Lindsey could set off a firestorm, unless he got prior permission from the landowner. This could get interesting. Still, great effort so far!
