Do we even know if this fire was human caused?
An awfully flippant response to fires that are consuming peoples livelihoods, recreational land, and CO tourism. The ecology is not lost on me, but neither are the societal impacts.

There hasn't been a thunderstorm in CO in quite a while, East Troublesome is likely human caused, Cameron Peak is almost definitely human caused as are Calwood, Ice lakes, and Left Hand.
The news stations are reporting that the East Troublesome fire was human caused.
While that could be true, and is very likely, it's not officially confirmed that it was human caused. Here is the latest from this morning. The Denver News is also reporting that 2 people were killed in Grand Lake, and the Sheriff said he knows nothing of it and can NOT confirm. The Denver news is also reporting that the town of Granby has been evacuated which is also untrue. We are currently under a per-evacuation notice. #Fake News

I was trying to explain the size of the fire to my mom and this way was easiest: The city of Chicago is 150,000 acres. This fire is 170,000 acres.

But people don't think about the size of a city. They think about their area in the city, or they think about where it is on a map if they don't live there. People know where Denver is but they wouldn't be able to draw a red outline on a map that describes the size of the entire metro area. I think a good approximation of size is how long it would take to drive from one end to the other at normal highway speeds.

That’s gotta be all 5 boroughs. I think manhattan is close to around 15,000 acres.

Any updates?

I hear Allenspark is under preevac. Obviously precautionary, but that would mean the fire in RMNP must be moving south and southeast ish.

It's pushing east with the high winds. Sounds like it's made it to Bierstadt Lake and Moraine Park. They are setting up fire lines to try and stop it from crossing Bear Lake Road.

I am in western Grand County right now ,well away from the fire. As forecasted the winds are starting to howl.
Sadly the deaths of two people have been confirmed. https://www.skyhinews.com/news/sheriff- ... some-fire/

Heartbreaking pulling this up this early in the morning, and its already sweeping thru Moraine Park. Can only imagine what the rest of the day is going to hold. Hopefully the firefighters can hold a line before Estes. The snow can't come soon enough.
