How can one apply to be a moderator? Ive nothing else going on in my life so i think Id be a good moderate voice of reason

Possibly because the old moderators have become inactive on the site.

They used to be frequent posters. I haven't seen them around in the past few years.

Isn't Bill the only moderator left? I know there were two others but one doesn't post much anymore and the other one doesn't seem to be showing as a moderator.

USAKeller and CONative used to be moderators, but I haven't seen them around for a while.

For what it’s worth - since I opened this can of worms...

Thanks to those who explained how to use the profile settings to ignore a user. It works and my life is now better as a result. I’m not crazy about the way it replaces a user’s message with a note indicating that the post is there, but it’s a big improvement nonetheless.

I’ve been on many forums that are considered absolutely horrible, so bad that people have been arrested for things they said on them. And this website has 10x the amount of hate. It’s just a bunch of old people who like going upwards but I wouldn’t be surprised if a 14er meetup ended in mass murder

well, at least since many “low-value” posts aren’t responded to anyway it does eliminate a fair amount of tedious garbage from what you would otherwise see. IMO it could be improved on a bit, but at least gives you some nominal control.
