Cristo Couloir

Post by jackvanlancker »

Does anyone know if Cristo is filled in enough to ski at this point? I did Quandary standard route a month ago and it looked pretty dry towards the top, wondering if anyone has beta now that avy is low again...

Looked good when I drove over Hoosier last week. That uppermost section is often wind scoured and thin. It'll be fatter a couple hundred feet down where it's more wind loaded.
Traveling light is the only way to fly.

Skied it yesterday, 10 APR. There is a band of rocks that some folks that don’t like their skis worked their way through, which is about 14,000 ft. I didn’t ski off the summit due to stupid high winds and lack of a clear route, but there was about 100-200ft of skiable snow 50 ft below the summit. The couloir is definitely in good shape. Pick your starting time right as the snow took forever to soften up yesterday.

Skied it today. Started skiing at roughly 14k, then took skis off for ~50ft descent down rocks, skied rest of way to about 100ft above road, skied part of the road back to standard trailhead. Very Icy descent around 10am.

Nice dude! You take any pics haha? Does it feel pretty full (i.e. not going anywhere anytime soon?) Guessing this week is going to dramatically change it either way but curious what the base was looking like.

Thanks in advace for any beta and nbd if none.

Also skied it the Mon 12. I dropped in late at 1320 in hopes it would soften. It didn't, the wind is just enough to keep it frozen. The only soft snow was in the exit gully getting down towards the dam. I was able to ski next to the road for a little ways, but it's going to be a walk soon because they plowed the road. The road is also gated so you can't drive up there.
