That behavior is definitely not exclusive to out of state drivers. Just yesterday I was coming down a dirt road in the Sangres behind a truck, with Colorado plates, pulling a trailer. There were plenty of places to pull over, but he never did. As a bonus, his trailer was leaking some kind of fluid the entire way.climbingcue wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 6:14 amSo true, and then on top of that fail to pull over for people that can actually drive. Situational awareness in a completely foreign concept for over 90% off all drivers on the road no matter where they are from. If I am pulling a trailer I regularly pull over to let them pass and not hold people up with my under powered truck.shredthegnar10 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 12:48 am Honestly, though, I think probationary "Coloradoan" status is attained when one (pay attention Texans/Californians/Midwesterners) realizes that you don't have to slam on your brakes every time the road slightly curves on a mountain pass and/or drive 10mph under the speed limit.

Life is changing everywhere, any population center in the US is facing rising housing costs, demographic shifts, crowding, etc. "Natives" complaining about "transplants" are just displaying their provincialism.

I think the good aspect about people that move here is that most of them come because of the vibe or the outdoors. At least pre-pandemic, people moved to CA because of Silicon Valley, or showbiz, or celebrity aspirations or some other career ambition. People move to NY for the money. People move to WA for Microsoft or Amazon. I have friends visit from other states who complain about lack of diversity in Colorado. And I am not just talking about racial diversity. They say everybody dresses the same, acts the same, likes the same things, looks the same, etc. I agree but I also say, why would I want to live in a place where people don't match my personality. Maybe if you are young and are still figuring out who you are.

This is a test. If you don't recoil in disgust and demand a craft microbrew IPA in lieu of that swill, you're obviously not a Native(TM).Carl_Healy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 8:14 am Luckily I was able to find in C.N.C § 76 that one's native status can be re-affirmed if you shotgun a Coors Light in front of your peers...

My great-grandparents left Eastern Europe in the wake of anti-Semitism that plagued the region in the early twentieth century. How they wound up in Burlington is anyone's guess, but that's where my grandfather was born. Made a lot more sense when the family moved a few hours west to Denver when he and his siblings were in school, since there was already an established (and still existent) Jewish community there.
My dad and his siblings and then my cousins and I were all born in Colorado. My second-youngest cousin bucked the trend by starting his family in Florida, and as he's likely the only one of us grandchildren continuing the family line, I suppose we're calling it good at three generations.
I don't think any of us went to college or grad school in state, though, so maybe our status was questionable in any case.

Natives did this in 1992 before the mass influx from other states.
I do appreciate the lack of speed enforcement in most of the urban areas, though.
Colorado drivers make many of the same mistakes as folks elsewhere, but they often do them in slow motion.

Re: Colorado "Native"
Both sides of my family moved from Kansas and West Virginia to Los Angeles in the 1920s (because --- get this --- there was little regulation, land was cheap, and the weather was good no less). My Grandma used to tell me stories about how Angelinos used to bitch and moan in the 30's and 40's about how the movie biz was taking over their little slice of paradise. It wasn't til the 1980's (mas o menos) that the movie biz was finally respected by the "old guard". These feelings have been happening everywhere since the dawn of time --- it's our ego and lack of self-awareness that prevents us from seeing this.
In other news, my daughter does brag to her fellow second graders (here in CA) that she was born in Colorado and not California. For what it's worth, none of her school mates were born in California either... lol.

Uh. Well, I've sinned. I didn't take any Polaroids or anything. But, yeah, I've sinned.

It's weird when I visit my family in Salt Lake and they are always complaining how crowded it is getting when they themselves had 5-7 kids each.headsizeburrito wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:19 am Life is changing everywhere, any population center in the US is facing rising housing costs, demographic shifts, crowding, etc. "Natives" complaining about "transplants" are just displaying their provincialism.

Re: Colorado "Native"
Natives I've met, don't use the word "Native" and are pretty awesome people.
I moved here from Florida in 2014. Everything was a change for me but seeing true mountains changed the game for me. Since I'm from Florida I just think it's weird to have pride in being from a state but I totally get why you would if you're from here. It's just that in my internet scrollings it seems more often used as a put down for others and pedestal placement for the person exhibiting the title then it is for true pride.

At least they pulled off T-REX. Traffic still not great but can't imagine what traffic would have looked like if that project never happened.Matt wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 12:25 pmHat tip to r/denverheadsizeburrito wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:19 am Life is changing everywhere, any population center in the US is facing rising housing costs, demographic shifts, crowding, etc. "Natives" complaining about "transplants" are just displaying their provincialism.

Re: Colorado "Native"
Honestly I'm not a fan of the term "Native" & I'm saying that as someone who was born & who has spent most of my life in in CO. The only real natives are the Native Americans IMO. I have lived out of state though & decided a lot of the rest of the world is great to visit - no need to live in those places (or I couldn't afford to stay). I lived in Barcelona for a summer & would have loved to have stayed but I wasn't working. Florida for 7 months - I came back because I wasn't very happy with my life there & realized it would be the first year I didn't snowboard if I had stayed. All my visits to Chile (wife's homeland) total a few months (sadly I haven't been in years - hoping to return in 2022). In lieu of the term "Native" I prefer "Coloradan". Now... as to the argument of time and being considered a Coloradan - that's a can of worms someone else can open.
I'm horrible with names...
