A really great effort, Brent, you should be justifiably proud. Yep, some things are beyond your control and objective hazards like lightning are nothing to mess with. Live to climb another day!

Re: 14ers FKT Attempt July 5-20 Self-Supported
Way to put yourself out there! Your effort, considering dedication to family, etc. resonated more with me and I'm sure others.
It sounds like you had a proper "SAR" and "Dad/Husband" mentality for risk assessment for your situation. You'll certainly have memories and stories, I hope you learned internal things as well.
I've just been listening to the book "The Comfort Crisis" about, essentially, the spiritual/mental necessity for us doing Hard Things. You know that already, but something that interested me was a doctor talking (somewhat anecdotally, but still an interesting take....) about a good matching goal having like a 50% chance of failure. That struck me because even in "hard" endurance-type things we are well-trained and set up for success if we're dedicated to it: we shouldn't really "DNF" a typical single-day event these days since they're set up for our success. Good on you for chasing a much tougher goal!
